Recording Earth's Geological History - Big Ideas
- Analyse, with reference to geological records, the relationship between climate, geology, and life on Earth, and evaluate contributions to our understanding of changes in Earth systems over geological time.
- Investigate geological evidence of major changes that have occurred during Earth’s history, and of the various processes that have contributed to these changes.
- Demonstrate an understanding of how changes to Earth’s surface have been recorded and preserved throughout geological time and how they contribute to our knowledge of Earth’s history

Week 5 - Welcome to our shortest unit on Earth's Geological History. This week please focus on Day 1-3. Go through the video lesson, take notes ad submit them. Complete the radiometric dating problems provided. Select how you will represent your Geological time scale, email me your idea to check if it is ok before you begin it. This will be due end of next week. NOTE**** I have shared with you all a unique folder where you are to add all of your work for the weeks. Please make sure that the work you submit is clearly titled (pictures of written work are just fine) This folder is only shared between the you and myself.

Complete the Fossil and Relative Dating worksheet. Watch the short video lesson on taxonomy and go through the more detailed PPT on classifying organisms. Make notes on both. When going through these, look at them through the lens of how this may impact what we know about fossils and the fossil record and look at how this may impact our understanding of evolution from the fossil record. Lastly go through the dendrochronology PPT under day 7 and read the scientific journal on dendrochronology. Complete the dendrochronology lab and submit by Friday. NOTE**** I have shared with you all a unique folder where you are to add all of your work for the weeks. Please make sure that the work you submit is clearly titled (pictures of written work are just fine) This folder is only shared between the you and myself.

I have added a second article on the Neanderthal Genes which is a worthwhile read. I have included a NOVA documentary that you may be interested in watching (not mandatory). Make notes on the PPT and upload them to the website for the Mass extictions PPT under day 9. Complete the graphing paleoclimates lab under day 10. Next week we will be having our unit test.

Under day 11, complete some research on types of index fossils after watchig the index fossils and relative dating, and fossil rock party anthem. After you have completed this, finish and submit the unit test. Please go to the Earth Materials unit under day 1, download the minerals assignment and chose a mineral to complete. Normally I would have students make a poster which you can do but I will accept any other type of way you would like to represent your information.
We will be having another question and answer session next week. As always, my email is available in real time.
